It's already been a month since I've posted what's been shaking with my publishing efforts, eh? Wow. No wonder it takes so damn long for people to get their books out in the real world. Well, it just so happens, I have a little update.
Remember the children's author guy who's been giving me some guidance as well as the names of some agents? Well, I mailed the agent at William Morris in New York (since I didn't have her e-mail) and I got an e-mail yesterday from her.
Dear Kingsley, I received your query and your book sounds very interesting! I'm happy to look at it, though I should warn you from the start that we don't typically handle children's books here at William Morris, so it is a bit of a long shot. Nevertheless, I'd love to have a crack! Warmly, Agent Lady
That's what I'm talking about.
Okay, so you're saying...what're you getting so excited about, KMC? She's probably going to read it and say 'Aw...it's a kids book. We still don't handle kids books.'
But...once she's read it, I can see if she knows someone who would be interested in handling me and my work. You see? It's all about networking, friends. If either she or my buddy Barry Goldblatt (who hasn't contacted me yet) don't pan out and neither want to represent me, I'll ask them for guidance and/or I can always go back to Brian Selznick and see if he's got other resources that I could look into. See?
I'm sending a manuscript her way today. She'll get it next week sometime and...well, who knows what? Cross your fingers. Say a little prayer for Kingsley MC if that's your thing.
Admittedly, the hardest part of this whole process is the waiting. I'm a very impatient person. Not saying I fly off the handle and get angry, but I just don't like to wait. I know, I know...it's all part of the process but that doesn't make it any easier.
So...when new news arrives, I'll drop it here.
